Introduction:
There's nothing quite like a staycation. The kids are happy to be out of the house and can't wait to see what it has in store for them. But what are some tips for keeping them entertained? Summertime is a great time for families to stay home and enjoy some downtime.
With the kids home for the summer, you may be wondering what you can do to keep them entertained so they don't get bored. I think you know that in order to have fun at home, there are some activities that take time to set up and have to be completed before other activities can begin. That's why we created a list of fun things you can do with your family during a staycation!
Research activities in your area
Research activities in your area. If you're going to be traveling to another city, visit the local library and see if they have any local guides or resources for kids. There are also many websites that list fun things to do in your area. Check out this list of 10 great places to go on a Staycation!
Visit family and friends. Visiting family and friends is always fun, so it's important to make sure you don't miss out on any special moments with them while you're away. If you know they're going somewhere fun during the summer, plan your staycation around that trip so that you can enjoy it with them!
Go camping or stay at a cabin. Camping is one of my favorite ways to spend time with my husband and kids because there's just something about sleeping outdoors under the stars that makes me feel relaxed and happy. Plus, as long as we have our tents set up properly (and don't forget matches!), we can enjoy cooking over an open fire too!
Go hiking or biking trails in your area. Hiking trails are popular among families because they allow everyone to get outside together and enjoy nature without having to worry about cars or other hazards from traffic and they're also a great way to get some exercise. Biking trails are another option, but if you don't have bikes or helmets for everyone, then this might not be the best idea.
Make a game out of it
The best way to keep the kids engaged is by making a game out of it. For example, if you are going to stay at home, make a game out of it! My eldest son loves playing chess. We have a little chess set, and he loves to play against himself or his brother. He’s always looking for new ways to play chess and finding different things that he can do with the pieces.
If you want to go somewhere else and stay there for a few days, then try to make some activities that will keep your child entertained while you are away from home. For example, if your child likes watching movies or playing video games on the computer, then maybe you can rent one at the hotel or resort and let them enjoy their time away from home without having to worry about anything else except their favorite activity.
The best thing about staying in a place like this is that there are so many different activities that they could do all day long instead of just sitting around doing nothing which would normally happen when they are at home because everyone wants everyone else’s attention all the time whether they want it or not.
Make a list of the things they want to do
When they’re younger, the kids may have a very short attention span. If you are planning on taking them somewhere, it’s important to keep that in mind and make sure you do things that will keep their attention. For example, if you want to go to a theme park, bring along some board games. If you want to go out for dinner with your friends, bring along some storybooks or coloring books so the kids can be creative while waiting for their food.
When it comes to entertainment for older kids, there are many ways that you can keep them occupied without having to plan anything in advance. You could go shopping with them or take them to one of their favorite places like the park or library. You can also take them out for ice cream or coffee at any local cafe and then ask them what they would like to do next!
Get outside together (if the weather permits!)
Whether you're going to the beach, visiting a park, or hitting up your local playground, there are tons of fun things to do together as a family. And while we don't always have time to get out in the natural world, we can make it work at home—even if it's just a little bit.
Here are some tips for keeping the kids entertained and engaged during a staycation:
- Take advantage of any outdoor space around your house. Have a picnic in your backyard or spend some time on the deck. Go on a walk through your neighborhood or take a bike ride along nearby trails.
- If you live near a park with softball fields or basketball courts, get all the gear out and let everyone play! Or if you have access to a pool or lake (or even open water!), go swimming together!
Be spontaneous and make sure everyone is excited about being together.
Make it a point to go somewhere new, or at least make an effort to get out of your comfort zone. If you've been too stuck in your routine, try taking a road trip or visiting a new museum. When you're traveling with kids, don't forget the essentials: snacks, water bottles, sunscreen, and toys for the car.
If you're staying home, consider looking for family-friendly activities that keep everyone entertained for hours on end — or at least until bedtime! You can find plenty of ideas on Pinterest or even just browse through your local newspaper's classifieds section to find inexpensive summer camps or places where kids can enjoy nature without leaving town.
Conclusion:
Ultimately, a good vacation is about relaxation and connections. With your list of things to do together in hand, you can feel confident that you're doing something great with your kids. A staycation can be just as fun (and sometimes more fun) than a traditional vacation, so be sure to schedule some time for it in your agenda. You'll probably even want to plan this trip twice; once during the winter and once during the summer.
For my kids, childhood vacations and holidays were filled with all the things they loved to do. We had a lot of fun and created so many memories. I hope you will be able to create that same magical feeling for your children who are young enough to enjoy the magic of a staycation.
